Isopropyl alcohol, also known as propan-2-ol or IPA, is a volatile solvent cleaner effective for the removal of oils and greases. It is highly volatile and will evaporate leaving no traces behind, making it suitable for cleaning electronics and floppy disc drives. 
 
Can be used as a preserving solution at a concentration of 75-90% and to extract DNA.
 
Can also be used as a disinfectant and hand sanitiser.
 
Due to its purity, please ensure you dilute the product down if intending for use on the skin. 
 
A dilution of IPA is required to be an effective disinfectant due to the requirement of water to be present to open the membranes of bacteria and allowing the IPA to enter and destroy the cell. 
 
Most sanitisers are typically 60-75% v/v of high purity (99.9%) IPA in water. 
 
To make a 75% v/v solution of IPA in water, simply mix 75mL IPA in 25mL water.
